Novice English Teachers' Identity Construction During Education Practice

Abstract

Teacher identity is about the understanding of “Who am I” or “Why do I belong to the community”. Its construction is a complex, dynamic and balanced process, and it influences teaching efficiency, one’s professional development, and attitudes to educational reform. From the perspective of teacher identity, the case study narrates novice English teachers’ professional development stories from the novice teacher to qualified teacher, and to mature teacher. It shows that the factors such as individual efforts, expert's guide,team cooperation, organizational support and students’ expectations influence her teacher identity. It also reflects their identity crisis in the sense of self-value and meaning.
