Abstract

Today’s students grow up with information technology, and computer science education has therefore attracted attention. In 2019, the Ministry of Education of Taiwan initiated a national curriculum reform and added Information Technology (IT) as a mandated subject matter for all students in grades 7-10. This study took an ecological perspective of teachers’ use of instructional materials, and interviewed secondary schools IT teachers across Taiwan in order to understand how this new subject is put into practice, the instructional materials they currently use and envision to be developed, and why they would like to have these materials. The findings provide practical implications for computer science education on the teaching front as well as on the development of effective instructional materials.
