Research reveals a national trend of rapid changing demographics where Latin(x) families are moving into Black neighborhoods producing a Black minority within largely Latin(x) schools This rapid change in schools’ student populations finds educators facing new challenges in addressing the educational and cultural needs of two minority populations, as well as race relations within the community. Our paper will address inter-related questions about the overall changes of Northway Elementary to include looping practices, relationship building with families, and the provision of culturally and historically relevant pedagogy: particularly how the three aspects of the change work together toward the goal of providing its students with quality educational opportunities and the enhancement of the students’ academic learning.
