Addressing Inequities in the Educational System: A Review of Selected Literature on Equity-Centered Leadership

Sun, April 16, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

As national demographics continue to become more diverse, researchers believe a call for increased cultural competency and responsiveness in school leaders is needed to address social justice and equity for school improvement. This proposed literature review identifies gaps within current theorizing and existing studies of equity-centered leadership and examines how these studies inform the required scientific evidence necessary for addressing inequities in the educational system. The study includes an intentional focus on translating research into practice within the context of learning and development of school leaders by shedding light on school and district leadership practices that deconstruct oppressive hegemonic policies. The researchers will employ a university-based search engine with multiple databases (EBSCO, ProQuest, ERIC) inclusive of all relevant concepts.
