Abstract

With the growth of fast-track online programs, many doctoral programs advertise as taking two to three years to complete. One offshoot has been the restructuring of the typical 14-week classes to shorter alternative intensive delivery methods. This paper explores the impact of these fast-track programs on doctoral-level qualitative classes. Under these circumstances, faculty have had to contend with what to exclude and what assignments are practical. We explore the shift from meritocracy-based evaluations that create inequities with students of color, toward praxis-based assignments that confronts those inequities. We utilize document analysis to track the changes in our practice. Through reflective journals and interviews, we capture our efforts to support students and program requirements that at times contradict each other.
