Abstract

In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states are required to include funding for religious schools in state funded private school voucher programs. More specifically, states are now required to fund religious education, if they also fund private education. Although not the focus of the Carson v. Makin decision, this case raises related concerns about states being required to use public funds to support private religious schools that might engage in discriminatory practices.
