Abstract

The field of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) increasingly highlights the important role that families and caregivers play in developing their child’s Social and Emotional (SE) skills. However, a recent study found parents may view the term Social-Emotional Learning unfavorably (Tyner, 2021). As such, we conducted the current survey to follow up on this study with three main goals: to examine knowledge of SEL, to examine overall support for SEL-related programs, and to examine potential differences in support based on political affiliation. Survey data show knowledge was moderate to low, but support was high for all SEL-related programs. Additionally, parents/caregivers of all political affiliations generally supported SEL. This study has implications for those engaging in school-family partnerships.
