Abstract

While previous research has explored why student voice efforts thrive or fail, this paper is some of the first research to explore the organizational and cultural conditions of readiness for a student voice project to successfully begin. Using a longitudinal design and mixed methods, it offers support for the value of an overall stance of equity when designing student voice work. Within this context, this paper introduces to the field the readiness conditions that can help student voice activities thrive. Specifically, it identifies the mindsets, skillsets, and heartsets that can strengthen the readiness of schools to engage in this work.
