Sun, April 16, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, Floor: 4th Floor, Clark - 1/2 Marriott Ballroom

Abstract

Integrating technology to positively impact instructional practices has been a challenge for over 20 years, despite identified barriers and intentional moves to influence teacher beliefs. This study explores how pre-service teachers perceive the interactions between technology, innovation, and good teaching, analyzes lesson templates used in preparation programs modeling planning for good teaching, and examines the impact of a designed intervention to mitigate a possible structural barrier in said templates. Data sources include surveys and focus group discussions from four cohorts of teachers (2020-2021) and 15 templates from university preparation programs and local K12 districts. Findings suggest a tension between concepts of good teaching and technology-use in lesson planning as well as valuable insights, post-intervention, for facilitating technology-integrated practice.
