Abstract

The pandemic has affected how education is delivered by resulting in a rapid and often disjointed transition to online learning, and service-learning is no exception. While service-learning has intentionally or forcibly been implemented online, in planning pedagogy initiatives, educators must consider the characters of their student bodies rather than take a one-size-for-all strategy. Nontraditional students are a growing population in postsecondary education, especially in online education. However, fewer studies have focused on nontraditional students’ perspectives to explore e-service-learning. In response, this review reveals the features and needs of nontraditional students in service-learning. Results add nuance to the understanding of the characteristics of nontraditional students and provide insights to inform future research in exploring e-service-learning with a focus on nontraditional students.
