Abstract

This study explores sources, measures, indicators, and treatments of mental fatigue in an online higher education setting. A systematic literature review was conducted by searching electronic databases related to the education field. A manual search was also performed to locate additional articles. A total of 27 articles were identified and comprehensively reviewed. Results revealed that there are four categories of sources of mental fatigue. Second, measures for mental fatigue are classified into two dimensions. Third, three categories of indicators of mental fatigue were identified. Finally, there was no identified research focusing on interventions for mental fatigue in online courses.
