Abstract

Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a schoolwide framework for equitably providing differentiated instruction and support to students. Inherent to most MTSS models is a decision support process designed to integrate multiple data sources to inform instructional choices. This action research examines a technologically convenient Decision Support System (DSS) developed through an IES innovation grant. The DSS includes alert notification, cohort setting, and decision making guidance. This paper reports an educator experience-based development process and the DSS’ preliminary influence on MTSS fidelity and educators’ problem-solving behavior. A field study conducted with school administrators considered multiple stages of development actions, with iterative learning cycles. Improved MTSS fidelity scores and problem-solving team activity were observed in pre-post data comparisons within a school year.
