Abstract

Major movements in student populations can leverage organizational climate change (Cilluffo & Cohn, 2019; Maxwell, 2014). Research indicates schools need to be more responsive to diverse languages, cultures, and norms (Madsen & Mabokela, 2014). School leaders provide the balance needed to guide new norms. As more families of color settle into historically White communities, school leaders face the reality of how old ways may not work. Recent events of Uvalde, racial tensions, and mental health make student voice and organizational climate effects an important issue to study (Luévanos, 2018). This paper examines how Latinx students’ perceive their principal’s role in creating an inclusive school where safety, belonging, fairness, and equity are central to the student environment and experience.
