Abstract

This study explores four student teachers’ (STs) experimentation with classroom management (CM) during early field placement. The use of video and peer coaching are considered as the main reflection tools to support STs during their first teaching experiences, while blending particular aspects of CM. Four themes are explored during STs’ practice, from which two are presented for the purposes of this study, namely, developing procedures and routines and effective time management. Despite prospective challenges, offering STs’ such reflection tools in the context of blending practice with coursework, provides them with a place to begin with CM during their first teaching efforts. Such results point towards a methodology for enhancing CM during STs’ (early) field placement.
