Students' Perceived Psychosocial Learning Environments Across Countries: Measurement Invariance and General Features of Teaching Quality

The application of invariance testing in the learning environments field is scarce. Little is known on how the quality of psychosocial learning environments looks like across countries with various educational systems. This study aims to: 1) investigate measurement invariance (MI) of a student questionnaire for measuring students’ perceived teaching quality across 11 education systems, and 2) examine how student perceptions of teaching quality look like across 11 education systems. 41,172 secondary school students of 2,800 teachers across the five continents were surveyed using the My teacher Questionnaire (MTQ). Results show that the hypothesized factor structure and measurement invariance of the MTQ were confirmed in seven educational systems. Variations in student perceptions of teaching quality across the seven countries were evident.
