Preparing for Innovation: Mapping Districts' Initial Efforts to Build Partnerships Around Equity-Centered Principal Pipelines

Abstract

This paper shares initial findings of a long-term study to document the growth of professional networks in urban school districts as a result of the design and implementation of equity-centered school leadership development programs. In 2021, the Wallace Foundation embarked on an ambitious effort to support eight urban districts in the US as they develop new, equity-centered principal pipelines. We designed and administered a social network survey to collect information on the existing network connections of 150 educators, community leaders and support organizations involved with the eight districts. The findings reported here contrast the initial state of the partnership networks for two of the participating districts, and describe how the study will proceed to document network growth over time.
