Engaging With Teachers to Implement the Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Computational Action Curriculum

Abstract

There is a need to prepare educators to design curriculum with emphasis on the socially responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI). This study followed a multiple case study design to examine how two teachers implemented the RAICA curriculum after two implementations. Using the Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM), our analysis revealed that both teachers showed changes in their concerns about the curriculum, although slightly different. They remained at the level of mechanical use of the curriculum, focusing on implementation, then shifting to technical aspects. The case study provides a window into how teachers vary in their implementation of an innovative curriculum, uncovering challenges such as limited resources, material and support that occur when teachers implement one that introduces unfamiliar AI technology.
