Sun, April 16, 9:50 to 11:20am CDT (9:50 to 11:20am CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

In keeping with the conference theme of "Interrogating Consequential Education Research in Pursuit of Truth" and producing education research that is “(a) designed to matter in public policy and practice and, concurrently, (b) interrogated to ensure equitable processes and results,” the objective of this paper is to examine transgender student athlete bans from a curriculum theory perspective that frames the current debates as part of a larger discourse about the social, cultural, and educational integration of transgender, intersex, and nonbinary individuals and to explore the impact of transgender sports bans on the formal, hidden, and social curriculum around the relationship between gender and sex.
