Depiction Versus Reality: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Undergraduate Admissions Recruitment Materials

Abstract

Using critical discourse analysis, this critical visual methods study will assess how institutions depict racial diversity through their undergraduate admissions websites, viewbooks, and other recruitment tools. Preliminary results indicate predominantly White institutions (PWIs) use performative behavior to appeal to students of color through these recruitment materials.
