Middle Leaders' Cognitive Complexity and Teachers' Team Performance: The Role of Diversity Perception and Conflict

Abstract

The current research examines an innovative model to predict teachers' performance in school teamwork. The model examines school middle leaders' cognitive complexity (CC) and its effect on their perception of team diversity, which may affect conflict and performance. Study participants were 71 middle leaders, 71 teams, and 229 team members from 12 Israeli schools. Results showed that school middle leaders' CC affects the positivity of their perception of diversity in the team, which in turn negatively affects conflict and positively affects teachers' teamwork performance. Conflict in teams was not related to performance.
