Equity Leadership Learning Series: A Case Study Exploring Influences of Leadership Learning on Multitiered System of Support and Student Outcomes

Sun, April 16, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Lobby - Level 3, Columbus AB

Abstract

The current study investigated the influence of an Equity Leadership Series (ELS) on academic student outcomes in a rural school district. The focal topic of the learning series were methods for increasing educational equity and student outcomes through improved MTSS, and the leadership skills shown to mediate effective implementation. The mixed methods case study findings suggest that use of fidelity tools, support for integration, and ongoing coaching supported leaders to improve their equity, leadership, and MTSS practices. The fidelity of MTSS improved, and the average scores of state summative assessments for students who stayed at the same school throughout the study increased from the baseline after the two years of implementation across all elementary and middle schools.
