Supporting School-Wide Readiness to Implement Social and Emotional Learning: A Feasibility and Acceptability Study

Abstract

Research suggests that school readiness can influence effective implementation of social and emotional learning (SEL) programs. This mixed methods study sought to examine the feasibility, acceptability, and potential impact of a new intervention, ReadySET, that aims to promote school readiness to implement SEL programs and strategies that align with school SEL needs and priorities. Two southeastern elementary schools participated in the intervention, including K-3 teachers, school-based mental health professionals, and administrators. Results demonstrated the intervention was feasible to implement, yet stakeholders reported mixed acceptability. Preliminary impact of the intervention on school readiness showed a slight decrease in overall SEL beliefs with an increase in comfort. Implications for SEL intervention implementation, school readiness and capacity-building, and school leadership will be discussed.
