Abstract

This study explored the extent to which early-career literacy teachers utilized instructional literacy frameworks when planning small group guided reading instruction. Early-career literacy teachers may benefit from frameworks that can scaffold the curriculum and pedagogy within their lesson plans. This presentation will share findings from a qualitative case study of two early-career literacy teachers that explored how these teachers utilized an instructional literacy framework to develop lesson plans. The data collected from this study included 14 transcribed teacher interviews (7 with each teacher) collected over the course of one semester. The findings suggest that instructional frameworks and state standards can serve as powerful curricular tools for early-career literacy teachers.
