Sun, April 16, 2:50 to 4:20pm CDT (2:50 to 4:20pm CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: East Tower - Exhibit Level, Riverside West Exhibition Hall

Abstract

GOALS (Girls Organizing and Learning Sport)GOALS is an all-female, after school, sport and physical activity program dedicated to providing opportunities for underserved girls to learn fundamental athletic skills. The importance of this female-focused sport equity program cannot be overstated as girls continue to be underserved by sport. Substantially more men than women participate in sport and that, over time, gender and age disparities generally persist through the years (CAWS, 2018). Thus, in collaboration with the Faculty of Education and female teaching candidates, this research endeavour sets out to increase the reach and scope of these programs to encourage more young females to pursue sports and physical activity. The impact of these programs will be documented through ongoing focus groups and surveys.
