This study investigated how a group of variables relate to post-secondary academic expectations in 12th grade students. Specifically, the relationship between academic ability, mother education level, high school program, and post-secondary expectations was investigated utilizing multiple linear regression separately for Latinx, African American, and White students. Results indicated that high school program track and school ability significantly related to student’s expected likelihood to attend college after high school for all ethnic and racial groups. A relationship was found between mother’s education and youth’s post-secondary academic expectations for the African American and White student group, but not the Latinx group. Findings for this investigation can inform policy and equity in supporting and promoting all students in their pursuit of higher education.
