Given the body of literature exploring the effects of race/ethnicity matching on student achievement in conjunction with the policy recommendations for recruitment of teachers of color, it follows that one of the country’s largest suppliers of minority teachers for high-needs schools (Teach For America; TFA) needs studying to determine if differential matching effects exist for these teachers and their students. This study began to fill this gap by examining the impact of race/ethnicity matching on student achievement as well as interaction effects based on teacher affiliation status with TFA. Preliminary results indicated that the main effect of matching was significant only for reading, whereas the interaction between matching and TFA affiliation was significant only for mathematics at sixth grade.
