Abstract

Recently, immersive virtual reality (VR) technologies have garnered major attention within the language learning community, especially the affordances to foster contextually linguistic-specific learning experiences and social interactions all within the Metaverse. However, the promise for VR to effectively change the landscape of teaching and learning cannot be realized without grounding VR courses with evidence-based pedagogical learning design. Consequently, this study fills this gap by examining whether the medium of VR grounded in pedagogical learning design may positively or negatively impact learners. Triangulating the quantitative and qualitative results provide insights into how VR courses might be implemented with the learning experience paradigm, helping to deliver on the promise of VR learning in the Metaverse that is more flexible, scalable, and wide-reaching.
