Tracking Changes in Principal Perceptions of Preparation of Early Career Teachers

Abstract

The study gathered data over 17 years from 261 principals who had hired new teachers who had completed a teacher licensure preparation program from a single institution. The principals completed a survey to identify to what degree new teachers were demonstrating positive teaching behaviors. Although principals rated new teachers with high scores, the area of classroom management showed a statistically significant reduction in principal ratings from the earliest years of the study (2005 to 2012) to the most recent iteration (2022).
