Disparities in STEM degree completion remain a pervasive problem in the United States. This study investigated the impact of a STEM Intervention Program (SIP) on the STEM major persistence of students over time and its potential role in closing the equity gap in STEM fields. Using discrete-time survival analysis, we examined the STEM major persistence of students in a SIP compared with non-participating peers who were matched using propensity score matching. The results indicated that SIP attendance has a statistically significant effect on STEM major persistence. The results also demonstrated that a SIP narrowed the gender and racial gaps in STEM major persistence.
