Assessment is a key procedure for the distribution of significant outcomes in the eyes of students, parents, teachers, principals, and the public. Fairness is at the heart of regulating the legitimacy of assessment role in these distributions. However, preservice teacher education about fairness in assessment has received little attention, leaving teachers to figure out what a fair assessment looks like on their own. As an initial step, this study leveraged the Classroom Assessment Fairness Inventory as a tool to explore preservice teachers’ learning about assessment fairness. The results provided initial empirical evidence into key sources, concepts, and effects of learning about fairness articulated by preservice teachers.
