Abstract

This case study describes one project team’s efforts to use community-based, participatory approaches for developing professional learning (PL) for data-rich, place-based earth science instruction. We share the processes, strategies, and tools that our team has employed to center the voices of teachers, particularly those of marginalized groups such as Indigenous populations and recent immigrants. We center educator voices and address systemic inequities in science education through participatory design. Our work is framed by our humanistic stance toward data-rich learning and place-based pedagogies. We share lessons learned, critiques, and future directions.
