A post-structuralist, feminist scholar renowned for her work in the curriculum field – and particularly as a founding leader of the Bergamo conference, the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, and also the AAACS – Janet Miller made a deep impression on me when I first heard her present on the “worldliness of curriculum studies” at the inaugural AAACS conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, over 20 years ago. At that time, I was an untenured, assistant professor at Louisiana State University drawing on postcolonial and feminist theories and the welcome Janet extended to me (after Bill Pinar – LSU colleague and founding leader of the above-noted legendary institutions in the curriculum theory field – kindly introduced us) evolved into rich conversations and academic exchanges over these many years. In this essay, I draw on the same to highlight Janet Miller’s deftness in and commitment to welcoming multiplicities into the curriculum field. The combination of work deeply grounded in theory and self-reflexive practice along with an openness to engaging differences that Janet has brought to the curriculum field is an enriching legacy.
