An Interrogation in Search of Critical Race Truth: K–12 Superintendents' Assumptions and Awareness of Critical Race Theory in Schools

Fri, April 14, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 4, Sheraton Ballroom IV and V

Abstract

Although much has been written on the relationship and application of critical race theory to the field of education, particularly educational policy, a gap exists in the empirical literature investigating school leader perceptions of critical race theory and how administrators understand its purpose or place in K12 schools. This empirical study examines the question: What are the assumptions and degree of awareness of school leaders about critical race theory generally? Data were collected from the researcher-developed and piloted Critical Race Theory Educational Leadership Awareness (CRTELA) survey. Quantitative and qualitative data are reported.
