Abstract

A research study was designed to explore the combined effect of culture and mobile device on a Bayesian Network for students using an IOS Math App, which contained mathematics modules based on the Emirati culture. We analyzed 160 student surveys using Bayesian Networks. In this paper, we report on the research findings that showed that incorporating Emirati cultural elements had a positive change on students’ learning and liking mathematics, even without a mobile device. Though, not allowing Emirati culture had a dramatic decrease on students’ learning and liking mathematics. The last finding suggested that students valued ethnomathematics examples over a mobile device to learn mathematics.
