Engineering education aims to prepare students to be innovators. However, research suggests that engineering classes tend to stifle student creativity and provide limited opportunities to think creatively. To address this problem, we developed the Creativity Academy which provides educational programming to teach and support engineering educators in integrating evidence-based creativity training methods into their classrooms. With the goal of understanding how participation in the Creativity Academy impacted classroom practices of engineering faculty, we conducted focus group interviews with 27 students from 10 engineering courses. Findings from this study provide insight into what instructional methods encouraged or discouraged creativity in these classes and provide further direction for engineering instructors to improve their practices.
