Crystallizing Themes Through the Visual Arts: Antiracism in Schools

Sun, April 16, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk, Floor: Level 2, Superior A

Abstract

Drawing upon critical whiteness studies and crystallization, this paper considers the potential of visual arts to develop and deepen themes during the data analysis process. I elaborate on the visual arts-based process I engaged with during my dissertation exploring antiracist teacher education within schools, discussing how visual arts pushed me to try out analogies, release embodied understandings, and playfully enjoy the project.
