Abstract

Feedback is powerful but limited research has examined the role of students' feedback perceptions. Based on previous validation evidence of the Feedback Orientation Scale initially identified in organizational psychology, the current study, with a large sample size of secondary students (N= 3552), examined the internal structure of a short-form of FOS (12 items) and its relation with academic self-concept. The results showed the bi-factor structure of the SF-FOS appears to be the best model. General Feedback Orientation (FO) and two dimensions of FO (utility and self-efficacy) are stronger predictors of academic self-concept. This study contributes an economic and parsimonious assessment tool to assess students' feedback perceptions in educational settings. We will discuss implications for feedback research and practice.
