Abstract

As university researchers, we have built our research and teaching practices on the conceptualization of research with; research that recognizes the collective nature of constructing knowledge through inquiry and challenges research on, a dominant paradigm that can be extractive for communities rather than mutually beneficial. This paper represents an evolution in our thinking that moves beyond conceptualizing research with as the opposite of research on, but rather a highly contextual process that relies on plurality and responsiveness within different spaces. In keeping with our commitment to collectivity, we have reached this way of thinking through collective grappling with undergraduates in a research course.
