Toward a Common Framework for Describing Professional Development Schools (PDSs): A Synthesis of PDS Narratives, 2008–2022

Thu, May 4, 11:30am to 1:00pm CDT (11:30am to 1:00pm CDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, Professional Development School Research SIG Virtual Paper Room

Abstract

This session will present a new framework developed through a systematic review and document analysis of 369 PDS narratives published since the release of the NAPDS Nine Essentials (1st edition). The framework’s purpose is to assist scholars in developing more transparent reports of PDS research that are grounded in a literature-backed approach to describing, comparing, and contrasting PDSs—both as intrinsic foci for scholarship and as rich contexts for scholarship about other topics. The framework includes three broad domains, each of which is subdivided into more specific PDS features: startup components, organizational components, and partnership core. This session will explicate the framework and examine its implications for future PDS research within the wider scope of scholarship about school-university partnerships.
