Abstract

COVID-19 caused businesses and schools to pivot to remote work and instruction. As students participated in remote learning, digital citizenship practices were often paused, and parents bridged at-home learning with lessons provided by teachers. However, little is known about how parents monitor digital citizenship at home. This study sought to understand parent perceptions about student understanding of appropriate digital practices to provide perspective on student online practices outside of a formal classroom setting. An online survey was used to gather the perspectives of 23 parents from a single Texas high school. The findings showed that parents believed students were somewhat familiar with proper practices, but parents wanted more information about digital security.
