The aim of this study was to understand the barriers students may face in accessing mental health services at a college campus in the southwest. Two focus group sessions were conducted (N= 9), as part of a larger ongoing evaluation project by the counseling department of the university. Emerging themes from the focus group data included: Initial access to mental health services on campus, Cultural and resource centers, Empathy, Financial costs, Awareness, Understanding of cultural backgrounds or personal identities (and language justice), Student choice (in providers and modality), and Student recommendations. Understanding student perceptions and feedback about counseling services is a crucial first step in addressing the mental health inequities on college campuses and ensuring student voices are heard.
