Abstract

This presentation shares findings related to integrating social studies and mathematics with preservice teachers (PSTs) through slow reveal graphs (SRGs). A SRG is a pedagogical tool that helps learners to reason about data. For this study, we utilized SRGs related to historical injustices to integrate social studies and mathematics. Although extant literature related to social studies and mathematics integration is scarce, our findings suggest that this integration and the use of SRGs encourage PSTs to interrogate and analyze historical injustices in new ways. Findings also suggest that SRGs help PSTs engage in high-level integration, support knowledge development in each content area, and encourage PSTs’ future considerations of integration. We also share implications and recommendations for practice.
