Abstract

This case study describes how a university/community collaborative, Action for Early Learning, partnered with Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC) to bring social emotional resources to early childhood education professionals in a Mid-Atlantic city. Local “Abby Ambassadors” were trained to share SSIC’s trauma-informed resources with early childhood professionals. Participants trusted the SSIC resources and especially valued the resources that gave them the language to address tender topics with children and families. The partnership was successful in raising awareness of the SSIC social emotional resources in the community, but obstacles related to COVID-19, the availability of technology in childcare centers, and communication limited direct impact of the SSIC social emotional tools and strategies on children and families.
