Researchers from South Korea propose ideas for why student' emotional wellbeing at school can cause a regression in mathematics performance. Through path analysis, this study investigates the effects of students' sense of belonging on their mathematics performance. Additionally, the model took into account two mediating factors: students’ perception of teachers and students’ behavior during class. Based on the 2019 Trend of International Mathematics and Science Study data, a recursive path model was created. As a result, students’ sense of belonging affects their mathematics performance both directly and indirectly. A notable finding is that a significant portion of students' mathematics performance can be explained by their sense of belonging, which is mediated by their perceptions of the teacher.
