Student Perceptions of School Success: Validation of the Successful Middle School Assessment Student Survey

The Successful Middle School Assessment (student survey) is an online tool to gather the perceptions of students regarding how effectively their school meets the needs of young adolescents as identified in The Successful Middle School: This We Believe (SMS; AMLE, 2020) and was launched in fall of 2021. This survey presents 61 items on an eight-point Likert scale (1=strongly disagree to 8=strongly agree). These items are based on the research-based position paper The Successful Middle School: This We Believe (SMS; AMLE, 2020) and were created to align with the three characteristic categories outlined within that document (culture and community; curriculum, instruction, and assessment; leadership and organization). This presentation will present evidence of the factor structure and reliability of this measure.
