• In Event: Illuminating Effective Practices, Approaches, and Strategies in Urban Education: Publishing With the Journal of Urban Teaching, Learning, and Research

Abstract

The Journal of Urban Teaching, Learning, and Research plays a critical role in disseminating the latest innovations in urban education and urban educational research. As a reviewer, I have a front-row seat on these new developments. It is an exciting and rewarding role. Over the past 2.5 years, I have reviewed nearly a dozen articles. The articles covered a variety of topics, from the use of technology in the classroom to innovative programs to promote literacy for African American females to teachers’ engagement with racism in the classroom. These articles show the breadth of interests of urban educators, the range of problems they face, and their earnest attempts to positively impact minority students.
It is also gratifying to read submissions from early-career researchers. It is vitally important that young scholars contemplate and address emerging challenges in urban education. New issues require fresh thinking, and the contributions of these developing practitioners and academics are vitally important to keeping our field relevant.
