Responding to Evidence: Tutorial-Style Lecturing Video Instruction in a Biology Online Course (Poster 46)

Abstract

This paper investigates an innovative instructional approach – tutorial-style videos – to promoting student learning in an online biology course during the pandemic. The majority of previous studies were conducted in labs or lab-like environments and the results from the two studies that were conducted in authentic classes resulted in different outcomes. This study addresses all the concerns presented in the two authentic studies and finds out that tutorial-style videos have a positive effect on higher-level learning compared to traditional videos. Implications of this study are also discussed in the paper.
