Abstract

The use of joint-display analysis in mixed-methods research continues to increase as the field emphasizes the importance of systematic data merging to develop meta-inferences. Nascent work has applied joint-display analyses to build theory in explanatory-sequential research designs, however the field lacks guidance for doing so in a convergent approach. We address this gap through an illustrative study on preservice teachers’ growth in practice, through which we describe an eight-step process that culminated in a refined theoretical model. We discuss implications for teacher education and professional development in light of findings regarding factors that influenced teachers’ growth in practice, and we describe recommendations for optimizing data integration from a mixed-methods perspective.
