Hispanic-Serving Institutions Ways of Funding and the Impact on Graduate Students' Time to Degree

Abstract

Graduate programs at HSIs promote the commitment, representation, and advancement of the Hispanic/Latinx population. Funding and fellowship are critical elements of graduate education, especially for minoritized population attending these institutions. The type of funding and the related activities impacts students' research performance and time to degree. Several studies focus on understanding the impact of funding on graduate students at doctoral level instituions, leaving a gap between the master granting institution and HSIs. Our study concentrates on this gap and highlights the influence of policies and context on funding and time to degree. Our finding, along with other studies and also shed light on the importance of protecting funding allocation at HSIs
