This paper proposes as a foundation on which to build a new visual and performing arts education philosophy. This developing philosophy will be referred to as Affective Arts Education (AAE). Affective arts education will grow from Dewey’s pragmatic views of education and Eisner’s teachings on the different visions of arts education. At the core of AAE is the belief that all students have a fundamental right to express themselves through art and deserve an opportunity to learn how to do so during their school years.
